Highlight: Are you an 11th or 12th grader who wants to get a head start and draft a college application styled essay for future application preparation? – or maybe a 12th grader who has already completed a similar college application prompt and would like the opportunity to use or expand on it for a chance to win a large cash prize? If so, the “You Will be Found” College Essay Writing Challenge is the perfect challenge for you! This college essay style challenge is pretty much open to all 11th and 12th graders residing in the United States, regardless of whether you are in a public, private, or homeschool education setting. As a possibly interesting sidenote, this application-style essay competition is sponsored by The Broadway Education and Gotham Writers Workshop. Regardless of whether you decide to use your efforts towards your actual college application, this essay challenge is a great (incentivized!) opportunity for you to think about, consider, write down, and see how you think you will be approaching the first phase of big decision making in your life. Applicants are asked to reflect (in no more than 650 words) on the idea of building or reinvention as a possible approach to moving forward in their life. More rules and information about this essay challenge can be found here. The competition is pretty generous with the cash prize amounts, with a $10,000 scholarship prize for the grand prize winner and up to 5 additional regional winners being awarded $1000 each. But regardless of winning the money, do not lose out on this opportunity for reflection; as Samuel Taylor Coleridge said,(if) “There is one art of which people should be masters – (it is) the art of reflection.”
