SHORT TERM RESEARCH EXPERIENCE FOR UNDERREPRESENTED PERSONS (STEP-UP)

Program Length: 8-10 weeks @ 40 hours/week… over the summer + 9 month post research mentorship

Location: Any college/research facility in the U.S. (you get to choose!)

Admissions Req:
Fulfill requirements for diversity and equity for the research program
Be a U.S. Citizen, non-citizen national, or legal permanent resident, 16 years of age or older, and enrolled in a high school (junior or senior) or an accredited U.S. college or university (two-year or four-year, graduating college seniors not eligible), or plan to be enrolled in the fall
Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale), although exceptions may be granted

Highlight: Get experience in research and hands-on lab work and promote diversity in Stem by taking part in the diversity and equity focussed research program offered through Short-Term Research Experience Program to Unlock Potential (STEP-UP). With a focus on inclusion and representation for underrepresented students, this research program allows you to work with experienced researchers at nearly any location in the U.S.. You can even get paid a generous stipend for your efforts in this diversity and equity focussed research program, which can be put towards housing and other costs if you choose a research location far from home! Research topics range from engineering to health- there are almost limitless choices. The relationships you make through this program will serve you through your education and career. After completing the application (Due February 1!) and receiving your acceptance, you will choose your research site and take an online training course. Your research program will consist of 40 hours/week over 8-10 weeks during the summer months alongside your mentors. After a presentation of your work with other student researchers, you will receive 9 months of post program mentorship!
